The Giver: Jonas

Author’s Note: This is a three paragraph essay to tell about the main character of the Giver, the main character being a boy named Jonas.

Jonas is an eleven year old boy living in a community it is a dull society that has no racism, no conflict and no pain. In his world he begins to see things differently and becomes curious about his city. When Jonas and other children turn twelve they are given an occupation, Jonas is skipped and given the job of receiver. The receiver is someone who holds the memories and feelings of the past; this will make Jonas see his world with a whole new view.

Jonas is a selfless child he had been doing volunteer work for the community he helped take care of and wash the old. He also took care of an adopted infant that had been adopted by his family. He likes to be mature and be careful to not break the rules when he dreamed he reported it to his mother because no one dreams as often as we do. Also he is careful to use the appropriate words to describe his feelings. He is strange, usually no one shows a lot of emotions in the city but Jonas starts to feel and have feelings that he is not used to. When Jonas is given the honor of becoming the receiver he begins to see things colorfully. He starts to feel and realize just how boring his world is. This makes Jonas not only the main character but a very unique character.
